Project Statement

Throughout our expedition in Memphis, we have been researching different ways to build a community and find a connection between the various generations we are surrounded by. Through a spontaneous interview with a local memphian, his information inspired us to create a space where authenticity can fluorish through multi-generational housing, physical therapy, and a playground where all equipment can be utilized for all ages. Our hope is to use the commentary from mid-review to bridge a path between the younger generation and the old. We believe through this journey, that multiple communities, from all different backgrounds, can join together and create a space of their own.

"Body, Mind, and Soul: Community."

This phrase jumpstarted our project into perceiving a conceptual ideaology into a physical form of represented strength within the building. Older generations are ostracized from society in many ways, and considering the statistical beneficial evidence that community buildings bring, our idea skyrocketed into the concept it is today!

The Atrium

After conceptualizing our design into a digital format, we brainstromed on an advanced architectural element that would set us apart. The vertical green strip, located in the core of the building, serves as a effective transportation for residents, as well as a connecting bridge from the lobby on the first floor, all the way to the top, near the generational housing unit. It also is well lit, and provides ample light to the bottom floors.

ACRYLIC EXPLORATION

Floor 13

I have always been fascinated with the combination of a simple material and the ability to enlarge it to its full potential, in order to create an extraordinary effect. Each pane of acrylic was specially designed, and placed specifically with the others in order for egress to occur, but to others inside of the space, it is a fun and exciting maze of colors!

THE ATRIUM

Ground Floor to 29th Floor

The atrium is the main attraction on the ground floor, and is discussed above in the questionnaire panels! It is meant to visually direct occupants to certain areas of the building, and transportation.
