PROJECT STATEMENT
The concept surrounding this design is structured solely through the idealization of childlike wonder. As adults, young or old, everyone in their lifetime relates back to the memories, feelings, and emotions that were emitted during their childhood. It is only human to yearn for that connectivity and innocence children have, and what we as adults, used to have. With secluded reading areas, a sensory room, and floor to ceiling curtains, the programs functionality has been designed to offer anyone of all ages the warmth and pure beauty of childlike wonder that so many of us lose throughout our life, while also creating a fun and playful space to explore. Bridge to Terabithia and My Girl are two inspirations that inspired the tree house effect, as well as the surrounding ambiance of the space through warm materials and textures. The programmatic function is physically meant to evoke an emotional response from the viewer that can resonate with the child that resides within every person while also helping children themselves become educated and prepped for the future. None of us should lose the child within, and no matter how hard we try, we always seem to find so much happiness in the memories of what was. This project is meant to inspire all to find that innocence in beauty, from architecture, lighting, and materials. And as Mr. Rogers once said: “The biggest mistake a parent or anyone can make is not to remember their own childhood.”
